Verso du riz
Turning agricultural waste into a housing solution
Widespread burning of rice husks harms the environment and wastes economic potential, while reliance on costly imports limits local growth. Verso du Riz tackles these twin problems by transforming rice husk waste into composite plywood and eco-friendly panels adapted for builders, artisans, households and institutions.
Eco-friendly panels and local value chains
The project produces locally-made construction panels and furniture components from rice husks, offering an affordable, lower-carbon alternative to imported materials. By linking waste management to construction needs, Verso du Riz reduces pollution, creates jobs, and strengthens regional circular-economy supply chains.
Impact and Achievements
Verso du Riz has validated its model at national scale: it has produced finished furniture items, mobilised local partners, and generated early sales while creating youth employment and raising awareness about rice-waste valorisation. The initiative has also secured institutional funding and technical support that helped move it from pilot to scale-up.
